Evaluation

• In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

On the front cover of a music magazine it has to have an eye-catching image to make the magazine look unique. It should also include a mast head of what the magazine is called and cover lines to show what’s inside the magazine. The contents should have images and page numbers to tell where the reader can find the articles. On my front cover I have included cover lines to show what’s inside. I have also made “The Anaphylactic Blitzed Interview” in bold and in a bigger font to show that it’s the main feature in the magazine. On my contents page I have a column on the left to tell the reader what’s inside the magazine and what the main features are. I have also included an advertisement on how to subscribe to the magazine and giving information of how much it is. There is a main image on the right to show another article inside the magazine.

• How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I have shown teenagers in my magazine as creative and talented people. My magazine is about new drum and bass artists and how the got to where they are, most of which are students or university students. My front cover image shows 2 artists at work mixing drum and bass tunes. Also in the contents page I have an image of another 2 music artists to make them look as serious artists also. I have made the images as the main attraction and used words in brief to give a summery of the features in the magazine.

• What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The magazine “Q” uses black and white images on the front cover to make it eye catching and the cover lines on the front page are brief giving a short summery of what’s inside the magazine. “Q” has influenced my cover page in my magazine because of the simple layout it has. I have used a similar layout by having Features” in a bigger font which makes it bold where the main feature are in the magazine.

• Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my magazine would be aged between 16 and 21 because people that age like listening to drum and bass music. The audience would mostly be male due to the dominance of male artists in the drum and bass business.

• How did you attract/address your audience?

On my front cover I have included a black and white image to show the main artists in the magazine which will attract drum and bass fans to buy the magazine. The cover lines also catch the eye of the reader because they include famous names of artists that will attract drum and bass fans more and they will buy the magazine. The audience would want to buy the magazine because of the famous names on the cover lines and the recognisable faces on the front cover.

• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have used Gimp to make the images look stylish and unique because of the colours and the contrasting backgrounds. I have used a digital camera to make the images have a better quality to make the magazine look professional and stylish. I have learnt that the background on the magazine front cover should not be white but more exciting so it looks unique.
